Mr. Luong Van Hung – responsible team leader, who dares to say and dares to do
Mr.Hung took the responsibility of becoming the leader of the Gathering group for nearly a year until the project ended because the old team leader moved away. Hung himself is also a complete newbie, from Son La to Nam Sach, Hai Duong looking for work.
At first, it took him nearly two months to apply for more than 20 companies before he was accepted to work in the Textile and Dyeing Department – Tinh Loi 2 Company – Nam Sach Industrial Area, Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province.
When he first took on the task, he always proved to be an enthusiastic, responsible, eager to learn how to be a team leader; at the same time, he was very interested in workers rights and how to claim and protect them.
Being the team leader, he was able to participate in many activities to change awareness and strengthen capacity such as training sessions on team management skills, training on occupational safety and health knowledge in the workplace, Labor Law and Health care, Labor law consultation sessions for workers, contests to learn about Labor Law and social security, as well as sports and cultural exchanges between tenant workers and local people. In all activities, he always actively seeks information and knowledge related to workers’ rights such as policies related to Labor Law, social insurance, overtime, or even maternity leave rates for female workers. As an easy-going, funny, open-minded, caring person, he is trusted by his team members and comes to him for advice when they have problems in the company and in everyday life.
When participating in some group activities and being trained on the topic of protective equipment for textile workers, he understood the importance of ensuring occupational safety and health in the production process. Therefore, he has been very active in exchanging information and sharing about the current situation at the factory where he and many other team members are working, the problem that workers have not been given adequate protective equipment. And after training sessions and group activities with members at the hostel, he proactively proposed and asked the company to provide workers with full protective equipment, such as masks, protective clothing, ear protection, gloves, etc. One month after his proposal was submitted to the company, workers in his workshop were fully equipped with labor protection equipment by the company.
He proudly shares with us: “My team raised the issue of occupational health and protective gear for workers in a meeting with the company. Previously, the company did not provide labor protection equipment such as masks, ear protectors, gloves, etc. for us. After the meeting about one month, the company provided the necessary protective equipment. The issue was raised not only in that meeting but with the Labor Union as well. As a result, now, all the workers in the workshop are equipped with protective gear!”
