LOOKING BACK AT THE “EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND DIALOGUE AT WORK” TRAINNING AT PHONG PHU INTERNATIONAL JOIN STOCK COMPANY
In May and June 2023, CDI cooperated with Phong Phu International Joint Stock Company (PPJ) and successfully organized a training series on “Effective Communication and Dialogue at Work.” Participants ranged from 92 managers of different levels and production workers at 11 factories of the Company in Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang.
The training course attendees were taught about core labor standards and common violation risks. An effective problem-solving and reception mechanism is needed for managers to quickly and comprehensively gather information on working conditions and prevent labor standards violations. Participants from the management and workers’ teams jointly evaluated and proposed many solutions to improve the mechanism of receiving and solving workers’ problems at specific factories.
The final part of the training course covers effective communication and dialogue in the workplace. Through discussions during the course, participants can see that dialogue is the most effective and sustainable way to solve problems and should become the corporate culture. Regular and constructive dialogue benefits both workers and businesses. The management team realized their role is to proactively communicate and open dialogue with trade unions and employees to grasp the situation and solve problems promptly. As for the group of trainees who are direct production workers, they are encouraged to use the factory’s internal complaint receiving and handling channel and to confidently and boldly make positive suggestions to solve problems and improve their working conditions.
After learning the basics of labor standards and communicating skills, the two groups of managers – employees, applying their learned knowledge, joined a practice dialogue session to find solutions to real problems at the factory. The dialogue session between employees and management levels is also an opportunity for the parties to discuss specific issues at the factory and agree on solutions.
Through a student-centered approach and diversely designed learning activities such as individual exercises, group work, experiential learning, etc., the training course received serious and extremely enthusiastic participation from the trainees.
